Shorts Newsletter - 20 March 2025

The new NZ On Air Portal will be live on 1 April. Here's what you need to know.

The new NZ On Air Portal will be live on 1 April. Below is important information for funding applicants - please read through it carefully.

This portal brings together three of our systems into one NZ On Air Portal – which will improve efficiencies and make applying for funding and managing your funding even easier.

If you have a live contract with us or have previously had a contract with us, you will soon receive an email inviting you to sign in to the new portal.

All you will need to do is click on the link, update your details and you’ll be good to go.

So keep an eye out for an email from portal@nzonair.govt.nz on 1 April. If you don't see it, make sure you check your junk or spam folder.

What if multiple people in my organisation need to access our account in the new NZ On Air Portal?
Each of the people within your organisation who registered with our old funding portal will receive a unique link to sign up in the new NZ On Air Portal.

If you have a number of registered users of your organisation’s previous account, now is a good time to consider those that may no longer need to be included, as well as anyone you may want to add. For example, the new portal will be where you will now view your contracts and send your invoices, so you may want to make sure your finance person, or whoever it is that will forward invoices to NZ On Air, has also created an account.

Please note that anyone who registers into your organisation’s account will have access to all the details of your applications, contracts and payments.

Saving documents from past applications
If you have documents from past applications that you want to download from the old system, you will still be able to log in to Tahua (Eric) until 30 June.

To download these, all you need to do is:

  1. Log in
  2. Navigate to [All Applications] tab on left hand side menu
  • You can sort by funding round / submission date / application title / application status

3. Click through to the application you wish to download data from

4. Click [Export PDF]

  • This brings up a pop-up with two options [Export as PDF] and [Export as PDF and Uploaded Files]
  • [Export as PDF] will only download the application form that was filled out as a PDF document to your local drive
  • [Export as PDF and Uploaded Files] will download the application form as well as any attachments (e.g. Letters of support, budget document, proposal document) as a .zip file

What does this mean for Music applicants?
This only applies to New Music Project, New Music Project Kids and Music Features rounds which use the current system (Tahua) for funding applications.

This does not apply to New Music Single or focus rounds (New Music Kids, New Music Pasifika, New Music Pan-Asian and Waiata Takitahi) which will still use the usual music portal to apply for funding.

Do those applying for the Games Development Sector Rebate (GDSR) need to create an account in this portal?
Yes, if you plan to apply for the GDSR, you need an account in the new portal. If you haven't got one already, you will need to create an account.

To find out more about the GDSR and the application process for GDSR 2025, go to the GDSR page of our website.
