The survey reinforced the importance of documentary to respondents who acknowledged the quality of New Zealand documentaries, particularly their production values and presentation.

Respondents preferred one-hour long documentaries, evenly split between series and one-offs. Most popular themes were nature and geography, history and science and technology. Documentaries should be “non-fiction” or “real-life” events and help to build knowledge.
Topics should be interesting or relevant.
