NZ On Air is pleased to announce funding for two new drama series.
When We Go To War is a Platinum Funded drama that will form a significant part of NZ On Air's contribution to the centennial commemorations of World War One.
The Platinum Fund supports quality content that says something special about New Zealand and which may require a higher level of public investment to get made.
Produced by Robin Scholes' (Once Were Warriors, What Really Happened: Waitangi, Mr Pip), written by Rachel Lang and Gavin Strawhan and directed by Peter Burger, When We Go To War is a mini-series that will chronicle both the front line and life back home in New Zealand during the tumultuous early twentieth century.
NZ On Air is also delighted to support Step-Dave, a new series from the talented team at South Pacific Pictures who have previously brought viewers popular dramas including Outrageous Fortune, Nothing Trivial and Go Girls. It is written by Kate McDermott.
Step-Dave is a funny drama about Dave, an ordinary 24-year-old Kiwi slacker who finds his life turned upside down when he meets the girl of his dreams - and her three kids.
"NZ On Air is committed to top quality popular drama and these projects clearly fit the bill," says NZ On Air Chief Executive Jane Wrightson. "They'll provide audiences with even more engaging and important New Zealand stories to enjoy - and will employ more than a hundred skilled creative and technical personnel."
When We Go To War will screen on TV One and Step-Dave will screen on TV2.
