The new and improved website for music funding scheme MakingTracks is open for business.

The new site simplifies the online applications process and picks up on changes recommended in the operational review of the scheme last year.

MakingTracks, which supports recording songs and making music videos to back up the release of those songs, will grant $2 million in funding this financial year.

Applications can now be made for the first MakingTracks funding round for 2013, closing on 01 February.

Previous applicants will note some small changes to criteria and, most importantly, will need to create a new login for the new site.

In the first year of MakingTracks, ended June 2012, NZ On Air made 148 grants of $10,000 for the funding of both a recording and video, and 170 grants of $6,000 for shooting a video where a song had already been recorded. Funding recommendations are made by a panel of broadcast and music specialists.

NZ On Air has now closed its old kiwihits music website.
