Thank you to all those who engaged with us during the Media Reform consultation period. Your observations and experience were very helpful as we put together NZ On Air’s submission.
We’re releasing the submission to you today so that you know where we landed. In short, we welcome the opportunity to engage in a discussion about the need for Media Reform and see benefits in the proposals, whilst noting some questions and issues that we believe require further consideration.
Unsurprisingly our submission was mostly about the proposed merger with the NZ Film Commission. There are no simple answers. But as an agency we stand ready to do what’s required of us, with the ultimate goal being to better serve New Zealand audiences and ensure a robust, thriving media sector.
You can read the full submission here or a three page summary here.
Current funding round
Our Board meets tomorrow to make Round Toru funding decisions. As we have come to expect, the round is again hotly contested.
We received 125 applications for $54m funding – with the available funding, this will translate to a 47% success rate. Watch out for funding decisions coming out from later this week.
Next round
Guidelines for Round Tahi will be out April 23 and an info webinar will be held on April 24. We will send out details on how to register for that webinar next week.
A reminder that Round Tahi and the 2025 GDSR applications will be our first rounds run fully through our new NZ On Air Portal.
