NZ On Air will fund 23 new music projects in the last MakingTracks music funding round for the 2015/16 funding year. It is also the last Making Tracks funding round before the funding scheme changes on 1 July.
The New Music Single and New Music Project funding schemes were announced on 9 June and split the previous annual Making Tracks allocation of $2million into two new music funding streams.
This month’s 23 projects were selected from a large field of 161 applications, which was the second highest amount of applications in any one Making Tracks round since the scheme began in July 2011.
There are 16 x $10,000 grants for recording a song and making a music video to back up the release of the song, and 7 x $6,000 grants for making a music video only.
This is the tenth of 10 Making Tracks funding rounds for the 2015/16 financial year. This year we have had a total of 1,358 songs submitted – the most applications ever in one funding year for Making Tracks. We have funded 228 projects in the year.
Decisions are based on the broadcast, music and audience merits of the songs that have been submitted, judged by a panel of broadcasting and music professionals.
The list of 23 projects funded in the June Making Tracks round is as follows –
