New Music Development

The February 2024 round is the last for NMD in its current format while NZ On Air Music takes a pause to consult with industry on the best way to fund development going forward. This decision was made after industry feedback in our Music Funding Review from October 2023.

New Music Development is a funding initiative which launched in October 2020 and is designed to support the development of new songs for emerging artists working alongside established music producers within New Zealand.

Funding of up to $6,000 (plus GST, if registered) is available to established music producers for the development of one emerging artist, with a minimum of three demo recordings to be delivered at the end of the development period.

The goal is to help develop the writing skills, overall sound, and musical direction of the artist through collaboration between producer and artist.
