NZ On Air is an independent government funding agency. We invest in a colourful range of cost-effective local content, to extend choices for different New Zealand audiences.
Since our formation in 1989, local content on our airwaves has increased dramatically. We can watch just under 11,000 hours on TV. We can hear around 20% of NZ music on the radio. We can tune in to a huge range of Access radio stations. And we can listen to some of the best radio public broadcasting in the world on Radio New Zealand.
Our efficient operation means we can invest over 97% of our Crown revenue into local content. This provides a diverse range of New Zealand voices, stories and perspectives to local audiences. Our functions are set out in the Broadcasting Act.

We champion local content through skillful investment in quality New Zealand broadcasting.
Kia tuku pūtea hei tautoko hei whakatairanga hoki i ngā kōrero pāho o Aotearoa.
